Is print really dead?

I recently saw this in ADWEEK.

Is print really dead? Not according to Ikea, after all, the company prints about 200 million copies of its catalog every year in 27 languages for 38 countries. That's more than twice the number of bibles produced in a given year.

But is a print catalog too low-fi for the high-tech age? Again, not according to Ikea, which rolled out this amusing promo for the 2015 catalog, slyly suggesting that print is actually a wondrous technology that equals—nah, exceeds—the power of digital media.

I'm sure the concept has been done before. But it's done well here.

It’s also well done with the Directory of Illustration. In Print + Online = Worldwide.

I invite you to call or email me to discuss your marketing options for 2015-2016. We’ll help you find work in new markets.

“I’m swamped with work - I partially blame it on my own talent and the rest is entirely the Directory of Illustration’s fault.”

     Christoph Hitz, advertiser since 2013

“The Directory of Illustration has been invaluable, exposing our illustrations to better paying clients with big budgets. I’m not sure we would be the nationally known studio we are today without it! ”
Terry Tidwell / Miracle Studios. advertiser since 1994

“Advertising in the Directory of Illustration has greatly increased my exposure and helped me acquire more clients from across the country.”
     Janet Allinger, advertiser since 2008

Communication Arts Banners drive traffic to Directory of Illustration

As you may already know the Directory of Illustration consistently runs 50,000 banner ads every month on Communications Arts Magazines website driving creatives to DirectoryofIllustration.com. These banners are free to every illustrator on our site and will send a creative directly to your portfolio. These banners run consistently in rotation on our home page as well.

Regarding the Directory print + internet program: Overall site traffic is up 29% on top of a 19% increase the previous year. We average 20,000 visitors per month with a bump after the 18,000 books are distributed in January -- for example, we had 24,000 visitors last February and 29,000 last March. An advertiser can monitor their own stats/activity on the back end of the site as well.

Print and Animation Success - Brett Jubinville

You've got to see the entire portfolio and presentation of this multi-talented illustrator and animator to understand all his skills. Brett Jubinville is Creative Director at Tinman Creative Studios in Ontario, Canada. Tinman specializes in design and pre-production for animated film & series. Among Brett's skills he lists Creative, Technical, Animation and Character Director.

Brett Jubinville's portfolio can be seen at DirectoryofIllustration.com. He uses the Directory program for print and animation opportunities.

Over the years I've seen Brett do some fabulous work. Two of my favorites are also the most recent:

Brett Jubinville - Red Samurai
"A yearly exercise I do is design or animate a red samurai in a style that I've been working in recently."

Tinman Creative Studios - LabDoor "A spot we finished August 2012 with Scofield Editorial for LabDoor, a product safety ratings and review app"
